In June we travelled to Melbourne for the WA day long weekend to visit family and check out a couple of AFL games at the MCG. While we were there we checked out the Melbourne swingers scene to see their clubs compare to our venue Infusions and the other Perth swingers parties.

What we found was surprising. In summary the differences to Perth swingers scene were:

1) More house parties and less council approved venues
2) Greater identification requirements both for gaining invites and for entry into parties
3) Clubs and parties further distance from the city centre
4) Age range restrictions in place for many parties
5) Clubs and parties required you to dress down immediately upon arrival

Perth swingers have life pretty good with closer venues to CBD and less entry requirements.

When we looked at swingers events posted on Red Hot Pie and used google to find other Melbourne party venues it was obvious that we were going to have to travel a long way from the city to have some fun. There are no clubs within 10-15kms of the city that are open for regular swingers parties on the weekends. The only venue that did list their address without requiring an invite was located in Seaford – at least an hours drive.

Many of the parties listed were very particular about age range – several specifying the max age of 38 for their events.

We also found that most events happening on weekends in Melbourne were house parties rather than club venues. These swingers events required that we contact them to gain an invite – a process we use ourselves at Infusions to ensure a quality crowd.

One party organiser told us over the phone that we needed to supply copies of both our drivers licences via email before we would be granted any invite due to problems with theft at past parties. We found that the use of licence scanners at venues was also common practice much like is done at nightclubs so that organisers know exactly who is on their premises at any time. These rules are much stricter than we’ve seen in Perth swingers scene where some clubs publish address details on their websites and we require only a face photo not a formal piece of identification.

In the end we got invites to two house parties – one for Friday and one for Saturday night.

The Friday night party held by Always Fun (see Red Hot Pie) was 45km from the city so we set out on the train on the Lilydale line and then needed to get an Uber to Mount Evelyn to the event location. When we arrived the party was busy with about 15-20 couples and 4 or 5 single men.

Although it was a house party location the organisers had put a lot of work into the venue fitting out the place with a dedicated locker room, a BDSM room, a large group sex room, a room with spa and massage table, two small bedroom play areas, and a smokers room. It was neat and clean with lots of lube and condoms supplied in each room.

When we arrived we were given a locker number with a key and elastic band so that the key could be kept on a wrist or arm during the party. The hosts gave us a tour of the venue and then we were required to dress down using the locker room before joining the party. Our locker contained two towels for our use which we thought was a great idea and will be implementing at Infusions in near future.

Another aspect of the party we were impressed with was that our drinks were given to staff at the kitchen bar who poured them for us and kept them labelled behind the bar with our locker number. We appreciated our drinks being supervised and safe. They also had a help yourself fridge with water and soft drinks.

Although it was a cold Melbourne night the venue was kept warm with a large wood heater in the main area where people gathered to socialize. We had a good night and although it’s a bit of trek out to the venue we would recommend this party to others.

Unfortunatly our experience at the Saturday night party left us less impressed. Saturday night we headed out to the Debauchery party held in a house in Carnegie. This was billed as a big party run by experienced host and it did pull a big crowd of approx 100 guests.

However, were left underwhelmed by the party setup and cleanliness of the venue. A cloakroom / change room was provided but no lockers and there were bags and clothes on every available part of the floorspace – no shelving or hanging space. It was difficult to find a spare spot amongst the chaos. The kitchen provided 2 esky with ice for drinks which were already overflowing and the kitchen counters were piled with dirty glasses and empty bottles which were not cleaned up until the party was over. It was a challenge to find a clean glass for our drinks and no security for them once they were left.

The three playrooms were crowded and mattresses lay down on floors with only sheets for covering which after some play were stripped off to leave bare mattresses. Condoms were supplied in rooms but no lube or bins so that later in the night floors were strewn with used condoms and other litter and empty drink containers.

While there was a lot of action in the rooms and a good group of guests the level of cleanliness was poor and facilities just seemed inadequate for a large party held on a regular basis. For these reasons even though this party was closer and well attended we can’t recommend this event to others.

On the Monday night we hopped on another train to Seaford to Shed 16’s weekly swingers night. Another lengthly trip but venue is pretty close to the train station. This party venue has a licensed bar and the setup was impressive. Locker and change room, two spas, sauna, social bar area, outside courtyard, and many private and group room options. The staff were friendly and gave us a tour of the facility and told us about their popular monthly swingers party theme events and setup.

It wasn’t a busy night but we enjoyed a spa, a few drinks and a chat with other guests. Can recommend travelling the distance to this swingers event as the facilities were great.

Our weekend was an interesting adventure into the Melbourne swingers scene and has given us several ideas for improvement to our Perth based swingers club.
